My business is Brock Mills Photography®. I am Brock Mills. I am an artist. I am a professional photographer. I chose to focus my art on photography because that is what called me. It is my passion and most importantly, it pays.
I did not study historical figures in art that would later influence my work. My influences came from my surroundings and my mother. She is the first photographer I knew. It was more of a hobby for her, being a mother wanting to capture the lives of her growing children, but she was quite the professional at taking formal pictures in an urban setting. Eventually when I became a professional photographer, I gravitated towards that same type of photography.
I want the world to know that I was born with hydrocephalus. I had my first brain surgery a few weeks after I was born. I had my second surgery shortly after I turned 14. A third surgery at age 15, a fifth at age 17, a sixth surgery at age 31 and a seventh at age 34. The world should also know that I was born in Brownsville, Brooklyn. I am grateful to be alive. I am grateful for photography. My condition and the neighborhood I grew up in shaped my story before I had a brand. Not only did surgery save my life, so did photography.
