I met Aushim at a bar in Brooklyn. I was with Sarah and her friends and he was bartending. At some point during our conversation, I mentioned that I was a photographer and he mentioned that he was a creative director working in the fashion industry. After a fun-filled evening we exchanged information. He liked my work and wanted to bring a different style to the fashion industry. His friend who had worked as a creative director and designer with Alexander Wang, Earnest Sewn, and Helmut Lang was branching out and starting his own denim line. He thought my style would be perfect to help launch the denim collection. He pitched the idea to his friend, Benjamin Talley, and as you can see he agreed. We spent almost ten hours shooting in a cemented industrial loft space in New York City. I was anxious. It was my first professional model shoot. Luckily Sarah and my oldest brother Hash were there to assist me. I learned so much that day, but my biggest take away was to never comprise my style.
