was created to honor and celebrate the life of my grandmother, Elaine Knight. Each piece is inspired by her and items that she left behind. After my grandmother passed away, my mother and I sorted through her belongings in order to design the funeral program. I gained a better understanding of her life and it inspired me. It was therapeutic, but it was also difficult to process. I had so many follow-up questions to ask my grandmother, and I hated that I couldn’t ask her. I had regrets. I wished we talked more. We spent a great deal of quality time together, but speaking less comes easy for me, and I did that. She often carried the conversations we had, and rightfully so. She was a great storyteller. I wish I remembered everything we spoke about. I wish I knew the things she didn’t get a chance to tell me. I wish she could see the art that I created in her honor. She was proud of everything I did. She saved so many things from her childhood, like report cards, notes from teachers and even an original copy of her birth certificate with her tiny little footprint on it. She saved rent notices, moving company bills and documents all the way back to the early 1930s. She also saved me. She was my lifesaver and I will forever be grateful. She was there for all the important moments in my life and with GOOD KNIGHT, she will always be there. I love you GMA, GOOD KNIGHT.
